O’Reilly, bigot is as bigot does…

This is why I can’t watch or tolerate or even accept ANY relevant, well informed and articulate information coming out of this man…  When you say something like this, being in the position that he is, you no longer have my ear… ever.  Having a loyal audience is what causes me even more heartache.

During the February 19, 2008 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bill O’Reilly took a call from a listener who said of Michelle Obama, “I just wanted to say that I think Michelle Obama is an angry woman — is speaking, I think, with her real voice for the first time.” O’Reilly and his callers were discussing Obama’s recent comments, which included her assertion that “[f]or the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.” ms

O’Reilly: “I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels”

That word has no place on a news channel, from a news anchor on a network station.

This country is about to do something monumental.  We’re about to elect one of two minority representatives to the office of President of the United States.  Either a woman, or an African American will become the leader of the free world in November.  That speaks to such a tremendous shift in acceptance, tolerance and the current irrelevance to gender and skin color when it comes to the most powerful political office in the world.  I don’t believe a woman nor a racial minority would have even had a chance of being elected in the 2000 or even 2004 Presidential elections.

This idiot (unfortunately) has an audience.  Quite a large audience.  “Why” is the question… “why” is the frustration.

New Music Monday, Josh Kelley

So this guy was born and raised in Georgia.  I saw him open for OneRepublic this past Friday and I thought I liked him from the song I posted below.  In actuality however, he seems like such a pretentious boob quite frankly.  There were like 3 middle-age women in the whole crowd who seemed to even know who he was.  He postured like he was a suave southerner with a tude which just came off as a put-on.  It almost seemed like he LEARNED to sing all soul-full and moody, and NOT that it’s his actual inherent sound.  The other annoying thing is that he didn’t play his MOST recognizable song “Almost Honest”.  Very bad move and one that leans even more towards his pretention.  The song below is why people even know who he is.  It’s listed on last.fm as being listened too 10,000 times to 1 of any of his other songs.  People will buy your record if you connect with them and you have to connect with them by signing something they recognize.

OneRepublic sang “Apologize” though I’m sure they go just about mental every time they have to play it.  OneRepublic, by the way, was quite refreshingly very very good.

john.he.is, “McCain 08, Like Hope, but Different!”

More inspired work from Andy Cobb.  Parody from Obama’s “Yes We Can” speech and will.i.am produced video mashup.  My favorite part is the sign language at 0:54 and the closing subtitle.  “McCain 08; Like Hope, but Different”

McCain gets boo’d by the conservatives he’ll never win over…

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, McCain gets his from who he has to pander to now.  Organizers of the event were instructing attendees to “not boo McCain” as they and the world assumed it was imminent.http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/3/1676311/mccainboooo.320.240.flv

Mitt is OUT!

ABC News is reporting that later today Mitt Romney will bow out of the presidential race.  The AP is reporting that he is expected to say “If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win.  And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.”

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.  I’m glad we will no longer be hearing from him though he may be positioning himself for a VP to McCain’s ticket as that “aiding a surrender to terror” nonsense sounds an awful like McCain-speak.  McCain is criticized for not being conservative enough, so Mitt will bring his supporters/votes to McCain and actually maybe just a little bit pose a challenge for either Democrat.

P.S. Democrats came out to vote on Super Tuesday nearly 2-to-1… 14 million to 6!

Torture vs. "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques"

“President Bush would authorize waterboarding future terrorism suspects if certain criteria are met,” White House spokesman Tony Fratto said this morning, one day after the director of the CIA for the first time publicly acknowledged his agency’s use of the tactic, which generally involves strapping a prisoner to a board, covering his face or mouth with a cloth, and pouring water over his face to create the sensation of drowning the Washington Post reported.  They made the distinction that waterboarding is not torture… it’s an “enhanced interrogation technique”.

Torture is as torture does in my opinion, and waterboarding is torture.  It’s always confused me how Republican’s are generally assumed to be religious conservatives and religious folk generally adhere to a concept that God’s is the only one who can affirm the worth of their soul, not man… yet a fundamental position of the GOP seems to be mortal man’s inalienable right to put to death a criminal and that our weapons and warmongering should always be the first line of defense against any threat.    Ad Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc (after this, therefore because of this) is a Latin phrase which speaks to “false causation” insomuch that you can’t always assume that that because 1 + 2 = 3, that 1 causes 2 to add to 3.

One would assume that those positions or actions of putting to death a criminal, and being eager to annihilate opposing countries/views through force and war would mean that those who hold to those notions have a lack of moral values/beliefs…  a lack of which which speak to a devaluation of individual human life.  One would also assume that those who abhor the actions of the death penalty and believe in political posturing as primary solutions to conflict would hold moral values defined or encouraged by a belief in a deity which values every human life.  Ad Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc…  Neither assumption can be made… These types of “actions” don’t roll up to a “cause” in a particular belief systems…. and that’s what’s so very odd about it (in my opinion).

Cindy McCain is no Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan or even Hillary Clinton

Times Online has a good article on John McCain and his current wife.  The one whom he left his crippled (in a car accident) previous wife for.  Despite the 18 year age gap, the fact that she’s a rodeo beauty queen, was addicted to pain killers and stole them from a charity she ran.  Not that any candidate should be flawless… but this is edging into Giuliani-type indiscretions…

New Music Monday, will.i.am

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountain-top and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality. (yes we can) Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can. Si Se Puede.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We want change!

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant. We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

We want change! I want change.

The hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in America’s story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea.

Yes. We. Can…
